Amr Saad has taken a step outside of its immediate comfort zone (premium eyewear) and has launched its debut jewelry collection. Vogue previewed the accessories offering ahead of the big reveal and spoke to the man behind the brand.

Titled ‘The Gentlemen Collection’, Saad’s signature love of geometrics is evident here. The overall collection is paired back and androgynous. “I aim to unify the beauty of abstract and geometrical shapes into precious metal pieces that can be freely expressed,” Saad tells Vogue.me. This understated, elemental aesthetic will undoubtedly delight the core audience (Elisa SednaouiLana El Sahely, and Tara Emad are loyalist clients) and expand horizons with the Vogue Man Arabia demographic too. Granted this is not the designer’s first time working with jewelry lines, it’s the brand’s initial expansion into this sector of the market.

The rings, earrings, and bracelets in 18k gold, 14k rose gold, or 925 silver can easily glide into your jewelry treasury and be borrowed by your gentleman. However, the cufflinks, collar pins, scissors, and flasks are by definition for the male clientele. While sartorial rules are made to be rewritten, the unisex appeal of the collection does have its limitations. The scissors prove to be quizzical rather than self explanatory. An office staple? Something for the (wo)man who has literally everything but some stationary that matches a signet?

“Each piece holds a story and a theme that people can personally relate to,” Saad tells Vogue.me. The designer is prompting us to make up our own minds. Failing that, the adjoining A-Liners eyewear collection features handcrafted designs in 18k gold and 925 silver in-built with Saad’s so-Instagrammable appeal.

For 2018 and beyond, the designer is expanding into retail in Tokyo and is currently exploring Dubai-based stockists. Expansion is coming and next year may just prove to be the defining twelve months that catapults the brand onto the global stage. But, as always, Saad will be working away in his Cairo-based studio burning the midnight oil. “My aim is to destruct the stereotypical perception of jewelry and construct the brand DNA in a form where people can express themselves through the different designs.” Indeed, there’s sufficient room to reinterpret ‘The Gentleman Collection’ style-wise and make it a cool girl’s best friend.

The Gentleman collection is available online and in-store in the Cairo flagship boutique.
